Strigolactones are newly discovered phytohormones that contribute to defining plant morphology, also in response to environmental conditions, and to the dialogue with organisms in the rhizosphere. Because of their both endogenous and exogenous role as signaling molecules, Strigolactones are well-placed to mediate both adaptive changes in the plant architecture and beneficial rhizosphere interactions. In the last years, Strigolactones have become a cutting-edge topic in plant biology and agronomy, and have great potential in modern agriculture.
For this reason, and following the 1st successful Edition of the International Congress on Strigolactones (ICS) held in 2015 in Wageningen (The Netherlands), it is a great pleasure to announce that the 2nd Edition of ICS will be held in Turin (Italy) from 27th to 31st March 2017.
This will be a great occasion to renew the interdisciplinary, collaborative atmosphere in the Strigolactone scientific community as well as to set up an inspirational and mind-opening meeting for young scientists. We therefore strongly encourage younger researchers to attend to the congress in order to make new fruitful contacts, strengthen their scientific international network and see, first hand, the state of the art in the field. To this end, a reduced registration fee is available for young participants.
The symposium program will feature special and plenary lectures, invited lectures, short communications, poster sessions, and exhibitions. Top-level academics and established leaders in the field, young and emerging investigators as well as leading scientists from industry will share their results and knowledge.
Last, but not least, the Congress will be organized by the University of Turin (UNITO), one of the largest, most ancient and prestigious Italian Institutions of Research and Education, which chairs and coordinates COST Action FA1206 “Stream” http://www.cost.eu/COST_Actions/fa/FA1206, a scientific network entirely focused on the studying of the biological roles and the applications of Strigolactones.
For these reasons, on behalf of the International Advisory Board, I warmly hope that you will join us in building up the scientific excellence on Strigolactones developed in the previous ICS 2015 and make ICS 2017 a memorable event in terms of results and international collaborations.
We look forward to seeing you in Turin in 2017 and we wish you a wonderful stay in Italy!
